Hi everyone,

For me, choosing colors is easily the hardest part of any new project. There are just so many beautiful options, and the pressure is on to find that perfect match!

With the Petalique Make-A-Long just around the corner, I am absolutely itching to see what colorways and project options you are dreaming up. Have your yarn cakes arrived yet? Are you still staring at your stash trying to decide?

Drop a comment in Scheepjes Facebook official group and share your yarn choices with us!

If you are stuck between a few different shades, post them in the groups - I am sure those who have already finalized their palettes would love to help you choose!

To get the inspiration flowing, here is my blanket color code and a sneak peek at how three of my amazing testers tackled their colors to create completely different vibes:

  1. The "Better Safe than Sorry" Approach!

  • Yarn:  Scheepjes Whirl (769 Blackberry Mint Chip), Whirlette (885 Plum and 860 Ice)

  • The Look: That's me! 🫣 For my own version of the blanket, I took the safest route by choosing a consistently deep gradient without any overly light sections which has a perfectly matching solid Whirlette (Plum).

I worked the gradient from light to dark for both main sections of the blanket, dividing the Whirl into color sections for the inner square so every single color shift is beautifully displayed.

To tie it all together, I framed each section with a border of that solid Plum Whirlette. For a crisp, high-contrast background that makes the whole design pop, I chose the plain off-white Whirlette in 860 Ice.

  1. Dalia’s "One-Cake" Small Pillow

  • Yarn: Scheepjes Whirl (769 Blackberry Mint Chip)

  • The Look: Dalia worked with this exact same Whirl cake—honestly, that colorway is just irresistible! She crocheted using both ends of a single cake at the same time (pulling from the inside and outside strands simultaneously).

  • Smart Time-Saver: She only crocheted the front mosaic panel and stitched it right onto a pre-made throw pillow (excellent resource management!). You can also use the remaining center of the cake to crochet a solid backing if you prefer.

  1. Karin’s Negative/Positive Wall Hanging Duo

  • Yarn: Whirl (793 Goji Sorbet Dream) + Whirlette (880 Delicious)

  • The Look: Karin divided her Whirl cake into distinct color sections. She used them as the background color for the first frame and pillow, and then completely reversed the order—using them as the contrast color for the second frame and pillow! This created a gorgeous, mirrored positive/negative effect.

  • 💡 Blanket Combo Idea: If you love Karin’s palette and want to use it for the Petalique Blanket, just add a matching Whirlette in 892 Crashed Candy to the mix. It rounds out the colors perfectly for the larger project scale!

  1. Yannic’s Gradient Blanket

  • Yarn: Whirl (778 Turkish Delight) + Whirlette (885, 892, and 860 Ice)

  • The Look: Yannic used a curated gradient combo. By dividing the Whirl for the inner square, she managed to beautifully display every single color shift across both main sections of the blanket.
