Instructions

Measure the caddy basket:
-
Measure the inner width and depth of the basket to determine the size of the divider.
-
If the measurements are smaller than 22 cm x 14 cm (8 ⅝'' x 5 ½''), and you need a smaller divider, use finer yarn.
-
If the measurements are larger, you can simply add extra rows to the edging to adjust the size.
Hook size difference:
-
I made two dividers — one using 2.75 mm hook and another with 3 mm hook, which turned out 1 cm (⅜'') larger. To prevent the larger one from sagging, I worked the final round of slip stitches using 2.5 mm hook to slightly contract the edges.
Motifs (x6)
Make 6 motifs joining them as you go (3 rows x 2 motifs in each).

Special stitch:
-
stacked sc: sc in 2nd vertical loop of prev sc post, thus "stacking" second sc on top of prev sc.
-
Making one sc and one stacked sc (2 sc total) replaces first double crochet (dc) in row.
-
Making one sc and two stacked sc (3 sc total) replaces first treble crochet (tr), and so on.
-
Motif 1
Rnd 1: ch4, ss in 1st ch, ch1 (doesn’t count as st throughout), sc (in ch4-ring), stacked sc (sc in last vertical lp of prev sc post; 2sc count tog as 1st dc), ch2, [dc (in ch4-ring), ch2]x7, ss (in stacked sc = in 1st dc).
Rnd 2: ch1, sc (in same sc), 2 stacked sc (3sc count tog as 1st tr), 3tr (in ch2-sp), [ch11 (pm in 6th ch), 4tr (in next ch2-sp), ch3, 4tr (in next ch2-sp)]x3, ch11 (pm in 6th ch), 4tr (in next ch2-sp), ch3, ss (in stacked sc = in 1st tr). Fasten off.
Motif 2
Special instructions:
-
join: Remove lp from hook, insert hook from RS into middle ch of ch-11 or ch-3 of other motif, pick up lp and draw it through ch; when joining into ch-11-sp already joined with one or two other ch-11-sps, insert hook into the same ch where previous joins were made.
Rnd 1: rep from Motif 1.
Rnd 2 (join to prev motif): ch1, sc (in same sc), 2 stacked sc (count as 1st tr), 3tr (in ch2-sp),
[ch11, 4tr (in next ch2-sp), ch3, 4tr (in next ch2-sp)]x2,
*ch6, join in 6th ch of any ch11-sp from prev motif (keep m if more ch-sps will be joined in the same ch later), ch5, 4tr (in next ch2-sp)**,
ch2, join in 2nd ch of next ch3-sp from prev motif, ch1, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
rep from * to **, ch3, ss (in 1st tr). Fasten off.
Motif 3
Rnd 1: rep from Motif 1.
Rnd 2 (join to 2 prev motifs): ch1, sc (in same sc), 2 stacked sc, 3tr (in ch2-sp),
[ch11, 4tr (in next ch2-sp), ch3, 4tr (in next ch2-sp)]x2,
ch6, join in 6th ch of ch11-sp from prev motif, ch5, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch2, join in 2nd ch of next ch3-sp from prev motif, ch1, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch6, join in 6th ch of 1st out of 2 ch11-sps, ch5, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch3, ss (in 1st tr). Fasten off.
Motif 4
Rnd 1: rep from Motif 1.
Rnd 2 (join to 3 prev motifs): ch1, sc (in same sc), 2 stacked sc, 3tr (in ch2-sp),
[ch11, 4tr (in next ch2-sp), ch3, 4tr (in next ch2-sp)]x1,
ch6, join in 6th ch of ch11-sp from prev motif, ch5, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch2, join in 2nd ch of next ch3-sp from prev motif, ch1, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch6, join in 6th ch of 1st out of 3 ch11-sps, ch5, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch2, join in 2nd ch of next ch3-sp from prev motif, ch1, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch6, join in 6th ch of ch11-sp from prev motif, ch5, 4tr (in next ch2-sp),
ch3, ss (in 1st tr). Fasten off.
Motifs 5 and 6
Rep Motif 3 and 4. Do not fasten off after Motif 6: instead of last ch3 make: ch1, hdc (in 1st dc).
Edging
Video: https://youtu.be/YonXrAlsxBc (at 13:40 time mark)
Rnd 1: ch1, sc in same sp, [ch8, sc in 6th ch of ch11 or in 2nd ch of ch3]x19, ch8, ss (in 1st sc).
Size adjustment:
-
If the divider is too small, Rnd 2 can be made with double crochet instead of single crochet: replace sc with dc and make (2dc, ch2, 2dc) in corner sc.
-
For further adjustment, add dc or sc rounds. Finish with Rnd 3.
Rnd 2 (sc): ch1, then make:
-
7sc in each ch8-sp
-
sc in each sc (except corners)
-
(sc, ch2, sc) in corner sc
ss (in 1st sc).
Rnd 3: make:
-
ss in every sc (or dc),
-
2sc in each corner ch2-sp,
ss (in 1st st). Fasten off.
Finishing
Video: https://youtu.be/YonXrAlsxBc (at 18:55 time mark)
-
Weave in the tails.
-
Block the divider (optional).
-
Determine the distance between the end of the basket and the divider (in the prototype, it is positioned 15 cm (6'') from the caddy end). Remove the basket liner and mark the attachment line on the visible right side (RS) of the liner.
-
With RS facing, pin the bottom edge of the divider to the marked line on the liner bottom, starting with the corners and then pinning the rest.
-
With RS facing, stitch the divider to the liner, sewing along the edge of the divider: secure both corners of the divider to the liner bottom seam with a few stitches.
*Make a 0.5 cm (1/8'') stitch into the liner, bring the needle out, make a vertical stitch into the divider, insert the needle back into the same point on the liner, and repeat from * to the end. Secure the second corner with a few whip stitches. -
Pin one side of the divider to the liner side and continue stitching vertically along the basket side, using the same method. Secure the seam at the third corner with a few whip stitches, and tie off.
-
Join the thread at the same bottom corner where you started. Pin the other side of the divider to the liner. Make sure the upper corners of the divider are positioned evenly, maintaining the same distance from the basket edge on both sides. Stitch this side to the liner as well.
-
If the divider stretches with use over time, you can stitch a thin rubber tape to its upper edge.
Care
Hand-wash in lukewarm water with a bit of mild detergent, rinse, use a towel to squeeze out excess moisture, lay flat to dry.
